Maria is a Ph.D. candidate in Wildland Resources at Utah State University with a focus on applied ecology and conservation. Her research focuses on the differences between a commercial beef cattle breed (Red Angus) and a heritage cattle breed (Rarámuri Criollo) in southern Utah. Maria has also conducted field research in Kenya and Mozambique, where she studied the effects of large herbivores on savanna ecosystems and fire-herbivore interactions.
