Nicole Herman-Mercer

Nicole Herman-Mercer is a Research Social Scientist with the SW CASC. Nicole’s research focuses on furthering the understanding of resilience in underserved communities through participatory methods, the integration of different knowledge systems and disciplines, with the goal of supporting decision-making and adaptation. She is particularly interested in developing new relationships with Southwest partners and producing actionable science within the SW CASC region.

Nicole joined the SW CASC in July, 2023 after 14 years with the USGS Water Mission Area where she focused on applying social science theories, methods, and analytical techniques towards increasing understanding of social-ecological-systems, including the social impacts of climate change on Indigenous communities across Alaska.
