Our friends at the Desert Lab on Tumamoc Hill are hosting a new webinar series exploring how the Santa Cruz River has coursed through the history of people in the region. The first installment, “A Perspective of the Santa Cruz River”, is coming up 9/23 at 6 pm. Speakers include Julie Pierson and Gabriel Vega.

The second episode, “Past Informing the Present”,  will be on 10/14. In this webinar Dr. Bob Webb will use a variety of datasets and research to explain how the River went from a magnificent riparian gallery forest with broad mesquite bosques to a down cut, cemented channel that has been an afterthought of planning and development for decades.
“Art of the Santa Cruz”, the third part of the series will take place on 11/11 and feature Kimi Eisele, Kathleen Velo and Dennis Caldwell analyzing how art created about the Santa Cruz River explores it’s change, restoration, resiliency, and possibilities.

The fourth and final installment will be split up into sections taking place on 12/2 and 12/3 and discussing Science and Management in the present and future. There will be six speakers over the two days, listed on the site. Click here to learn more about each episode and register to attend.
