Tribal Organizations

  • American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) – AIHEC, a key partner of the SW CASC, was established in 1972 in order to represent the interests of tribal colleges. Among other resources, a key opportunity they provide is the Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) Program. AIHEC is continually seeking tribal environmental programs, inter-tribal organizations, and Tribal Colleges & Universities (TCUs) to host full-time VISTA members who carry a range of skills including research, planning, field work, meeting facilitation, etc. VISTAs can help provide capacity for community-driven projects that address pressing local climate change concerns. • Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals - ITEP works to support the protection of Native American natural resources through culturally relevant education, research, partnerships and policy-based services.
  • Bureau of Indians Affairs tribal resilience program - The BIA Tribal Resilience Program provides funding to tribes, tribal consortia, and authorized tribal organizations to build capacity and resilience to climate change. Support will be provided through competitive awards for leadership engagement, adaptation planning, vulnerability assessments, and other programs.
