New Global Assessment Argues Urbanization Can Improve Sustainable Development

Nearly 70 percent of the global population is projected to live in urban areas by 2050, presenting a major opportunity to improve global sustainability, according to a new assessment entitled Cities and Biodiversity Outlook. Instead of being sources of large ecological footprints, cities should promote development that is low-carbon and resource-efficient to improve biodiversity and quality of life.
